Biography

Dr Favre-Bulle's practice concentrates on dispute resolution (arbitration as counsel or arbitrator, ADR, court litigation). He has been involved in more than 240 arbitrations (e.g. sales agreements, agency and distribution, licences, joint ventures, shareholders agreements and post-M&A disputes, etc., in various business industries such as energy, construction, luxury goods, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, banking, and sports (in particular before the Court of Arbitration for Sport) etc.). At Lenz & Staehelin in Geneva, Dr Favre-Bulle leads the Arbitration group and the Sports law sector. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and the author of some 75 books and articles.

Xavier Favre-Bulle holds a law degree (1988) and an LLM (1991) from the University of Geneva. He graduated from the Academy of European Law of the European University Institute in Florence (1992) before completing his doctoral thesis at the University of Geneva (1998). Xavier Favre-Bulle was a visiting foreign lawyer with a major London firm in 1999. He was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 1996 and as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2000. Xavier Favre-Bulle joined Lenz & Staehelin in 1994 and has been a partner since 2003.

Xavier Favre-Bulle is Vice-President of the Arbitration Court of the Swiss Chambers' Arbitration Institution (SCAI), Vice-Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and former Senior Vice-Chair of its Sport Law Committee. He is a former President of the International Arbitration Commission, the Sports Law Commission and a former member of the Governing Board of Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). Xavier Favre-Bulle is also member of the Swiss Arbitration Academy, the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and of the ICC Institute of World Business Law.

He is a member of the Panels of Arbitrators of, among others, ICC Switzerland, International Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (TRAC), Russian Arbitration Association (RAA), Arbitration Centre at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).

Dr Favre-Bulle heads the sports law practice and arbitration group at Lenz & Staehelin in Geneva. His practice concentrates on sports law, arbitration (counsel or arbitrator), international litigation and ADR. He regularly acts as counsel before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and other bodies, including internal tribunals of sports federations, in doping and disciplinary cases, as well as for commercial disputes.
