Biography

Woo Young Jung is a representative partner of the banking and finance group at Lee & Ko and brings more than 28 years of practice and experience to the areas of finance and general banking. During his long tenure as a banking attorney, he has handled and advised on a wide variety of financing schemes and structures, including asset financing, structured financing, securities, corporate rehabilitation and asset backed securitisation; his work always has a concentration on the area of ship finance. He advises leading shipping companies and financial institutions (both local and offshore) on the acquisition of new buildings and second-hand ships; offshore oil and gas; cross-border leases; tax leases under US, UK and French revenue regulations; fund schemes; and other structured financing, many of which have been benchmark deals in the Korean market.

He also provides advice, as a designated outside counsel, and makes active contributions to many government bodies and government-related authorities that have been tasked with the drafting and implementing of anti-money laundering legislation and other financial regulations. Such clients include the Bank of Korea, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the Export-Import Bank of Korea, the Korea Development Bank, the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, the Korea Expressway Corporation and, more recently, the Korea Finance Corporation. He has also served as an adviser to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, an advisory member of the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit, and external director of several shipping companies.

He lectures frequently on structured finance, ship finance and the Ship Investment Company Act at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, the Korea Banking Institute, Korea University, Korea Marine and Ocean University and the International Bar Association.
