Biography

Tatsuo Yamashima is a partner at Atsumi & Sakai and is admitted to the bar in Japan. He primarily works in the field of antitrust and competition law, but also advises on compliance, employment and other corporate legal affairs.

Tatsuo has extensive experience in international cartel cases and merger filings, and has broad-ranging knowledge of antitrust and competition legislation with regard to international cartel enforcement actions by authorities outside Japan. He has acted as lead counsel in representing many Japanese and foreign companies in cases involving the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC), the European Commission, the US Department of Justice and other regulatory authorities in Asia, Oceania, Latin America and Africa. The competition matters that he has advised on relate to, inter alia, IT devices, freight forwarding, power cables, the financial sector, auto-parts, international shipping, and other manufacturing and service industries; he also has significant experience with leniency applications at the JFTC.

Mr Yamashima was ranked as a leading individual for antitrust and competition law in Who’s Who Legal
(2020), Chambers Asia-Pacific (2020), Who’s Who Legal: Japan (2020), Asialaw Profiles (2020), Global

Tatsuo is a graduate of the University of Tokyo (BA, 2002; LLM, 2004). He worked in Brussels in the competition law group of a leading global firm in 2011 as a visiting foreign attorney.
