Tae Uk Kang excels in data privacy issues and is widely regarded as “one of the best” in the Korean market.
Tae Uk Kang is the head of the data protection practice team at Bae, Kim & Lee (BKL) in Seoul. He is also a partner of the intellectual property practice group. Prior to joining BKL in March 2007, he worked as a judge for five years.
Mr Kang provides an advisory service and acts in in civil and/or criminal litigation related to data protection, intellectual property disputes, and all legal matters related to the internet-service providers such as e-commerce and online game industry.
His data-related work highlights include advising Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG Electronics, LG CNS, Twitter, Spotify, iHerb, Unity Technology, Line plus, Philips Morris and others on diverse data protection issues; advising Naver, Nexon, Netmarble, LG Chemical, Pearl Abyss, Com2Us, ST Unitas, Fittogether and others on GDPR and/or personal information protection compliance issues in e-commerce business; and advising several global and domestic companies in the e-commerce consumer goods and pharmaceutical industries on responding to investigations by the Korean Communication Commission and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as well as in data protection-related civil/criminal disputes.
Mr Kang frequently advises the Personal Information Protection Commission, and the Korea Internet and Security Agency; he is also a member of several expert/advisory committees related to data matters, including the Content Dispute Resolution Committee; the Interpretation of Personal Information Protection Laws Committee of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; and the Korea Communication Commission.
Mr Kang is a member of the New York, Korean and Seoul Bars.
