Sumbo Akintola is a partner in the corporate and commercial department of Aluko & Oyebode, and heads the technology, media, entertainment and telecommunications (TMET) practice. Her experience spans over two decades, with particular focus on the fast evolving TMET space. Sumbo provides significant legal and regulatory support to OTT service providers, the broadcasting industry (traditional and online streaming) and telecommunication companies (value added services, mobile network operators). Other areas of practice include: data protection and privacy, mobile money, IoT services and cloud computing. She is a highly versatile and active member of the banking and project/infrastructure finance teams.
Sumbo represents several top-tier American-based technology companies; emerging FinTech platforms, social networking platforms; online payment platforms; and major search engine platforms. She provides ongoing support in respect of their products and service offerings in Nigeria.
Sumbo continues to work closely with a number of regulatory agencies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Nigeria Internet Registration Association. As a key stakeholder, Sumbo provided input into the draft Data Protection Guidelines 2017 which were issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency in January 2019.
