Stephen O'Malley is a senior managing director at Ankura based in New York and co-leads the firm's e-discovery practice. He has more than a decade of experience assisting clients with their digital forensics and information management needs surrounding complex multinational investigations, corporate disputes, and government investigations across various industries. Stephen has provided expert testimony related to the analysis and restoration of electronic data, electronic discovery best practices, and the testing of related computer software.
His notable achievements include the on-site forensic examination and electronic discovery review effort of millions of documents located in China for a multinational gaming corporation, as well as extensive experience with FCPA, HSR antitrust and other accounting fraud investigations. He recently led the e-discovery efforts for a multinational electronics manufacturing business. His work on each of these cases included interviews, electronic data identification, collection, processing, and document review management at various locations around the globe.
Stephen also led an e-discovery and computer forensics team investigating a large hedge fund, which helped expose a US$700 million Ponzi scheme. In addition, he managed a forensic investigations team responsible for examining components of the Madoff Ponzi scheme, the largest in US history. On behalf of the Madoff trustee, Stephen analysed communications, investigated trading activity in search of notable patterns indicative of fraud, documented findings, and reviewed key findings with the legal team on behalf of the trustee.
