Stefan Heissner draws praise from interviewees thanks to his deep understanding of fraud investigations and his superb compliance advisory work.
Stefan Heissner is managing partner of EY forensic and integrity services in Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA). He leads a team of almost 400 practitioners in the region providing a wide range of forensic accounting services including investigations, disputes, as well as forensic technology, business integrity and compliance management. The practice provides services to global organisations, mid-size companies as well as public administrations and governments.
Stefan has recently been appointed to the EY global forensic and integrity services leadership team to head up its global sector strategy. Previously, he had led the forensic practice across Central and South-Eastern Europe as well as CIS.
Stefan joined EY in 2006 and has over 20 years’ experience working for the ‘big four’ accounting firms. Previously, Stefan spent over 15 years with the German police force becoming a detective superintendent, as well as spending five years in the department of white-collar crime and corruption.
He has been involved in conducting various large international investigations on money laundering, corruption, fraud and market manipulation. His clients have included international companies as well as public regulators, prosecutors, the police and governments. He also served as expert witness in disputes and cases of international arbitration.
More recently, Stefan has been advising many leading multinational organisations on their anti-fraud management systems and its digitisation, as well as their integrity management.
Stefan holds two degrees in economics and attained a PhD in 2001, where he focused on the behavioural aspects of white-collar crime. He is a certified fraud examiner, a member of Atlantik-Bruecke, as well as an adviser and delegate to the Munich Security conference and member of the Association of Criminal Police Officers, Germany. Additionally, he is a member of the advisory board of Deutches Institut für compliance e.V (DICO).
Stefan is a visiting lecturer at the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), Berlin and at the Hessian Police Academy, Wiesbaden. His book, Managing Business Integrity ranks among the standard literature for practitioners and students alike.
