Sonal Sejpal is identified by peers as one of the foremost banking lawyers in Kenya. She has over 20 years of experience in a range of banking, finance and insolvency matters.
For over 21 years, Sonal Sejpal has been a full-time director with Anjarwalla & Khanna (A&K), a leading corporate law firm in Kenya, as well as the founding member and driving force of ALN, an alliance of leading corporate law firms currently in 16 key African jurisdictions. Sonal also provides support to ATZ Law Chambers, A&K’s affiliate firm in Tanzania and which is also the Tanzanian ALN member firm. She is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales with considerable experience in aviation finance, banking, syndicated and project finance, restructurings, corporate commercial matters and insolvency. She is also recognised for her expertise in Tanzanian law.
Sonal is a regular speaker at seminars on various aspects of banking and commercial law, including seminars organised by the UK-based Loan Market Association. She has until very recently sat on the Board of Directors of both Liberty Life Insurance and Heritage Insurance and is the vice chair of the British Chamber of Commerce.
Sonal has co-authored the Kenya chapters of Getting the Deal Through: Loans and Secured Finance (2016–2019 editions), Global Legal Group’s International Comparative Legal Guide: Fintech (2018), The Lawyer Briefings and the Kenya Cross Border Guide to Lending and Security.
She is ranked as a leading lawyer in Kenya by Chambers Global, IFLR1000 and The Legal 500.
Sonal graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Westminster, England.
