Biography

Simon Manner is a German attorney specialising in arbitration and litigation, and a founding partner of the boutique law firm Manner Spangenberg. He assists companies in navigating high-stakes disputes as well as in the drafting, negotiation and execution of complex contracts.

Simon Manner has significant experience as counsel and as arbitrator, including as president and sole arbitrator, in domestic and international arbitrations under various rules (including ICC, DIS, SCC, KCAB, CEAC, RUCIP, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, ad hoc) and laws (including Austrian, German, Indonesian, Korean, Swedish and Swiss law). He has handled construction (including FIDIC), machinery, energy (gas and renewables), transportation, infrastructure, distribution, intellectual property, information technology, corporate, shareholder, post-M&A and a variety of contract, trade and other commercial disputes.

Before founding Manner Spangenberg, Simon Manner was a senior legal counsel with the Nordex Group for five years, where he was globally responsible for handling the companies’ disputes and negotiated numerous high-volume construction contracts (often FIDIC-based) and procurement contracts. Prior to his in-house role, he worked for several years as an attorney at a disputes law firm in Hamburg. He holds law degrees from Germany (Freiburg) and Switzerland (Basel, Doctor of Laws, summa cum laude).

As well as being recognised by WWL, Simon Manner has been named a “rising star” by LMG’s Expert Guide. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of International Arbitration and a past co-chair of DIS40, and he participated in the revision of the DIS Arbitration Rules. He regularly publishes and lectures on international contract law and dispute resolution.

Biography

Simon Manner is a German attorney specialising in international dispute resolution with a particular focus on arbitration and is a founding partner of the boutique law firm Manner Spangenberg. He assists and represents companies in commercial, construction and energy disputes as well as in complex contract negotiations. In addition, he regularly acts as an arbitrator and as a member of dispute adjudication boards (DABs).

Simon Manner combines many years of experience as an in-house counsel in a globally operating renewable energy company with his experience as an attorney in dispute resolution law firms. He has a broad track record as counsel and arbitrator (chairman, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator) in arbitrations under various arbitration rules (including ICC, DIS, SCC and KCAB) and laws relating to, inter alia, construction, machinery, energy (oil and gas, and renewables, in particular wind), infrastructure, transportation, corporate law, shareholder and post-M&A disputes, intellectual property and international trade.
