Sergei Petrosov is a go-to name in the Russian market when it comes to advising on damages and recovery in complex investigations and litigation proceedings.
Sergei is a partner, heading BDO's forensic services department in Moscow, Russia, with over 17 years of professional experience in Russia & CIS, the UK and the US.
Sergei started his career in audit and assurance, and then, since 2012, went on focusing solely on forensic services, including fraud investigations, accounting related litigation & dispute resolution support, anti-fraud internal controls and compliance with anti-bribery anti-corruption legislation.
As a forensic expert, Sergei performed analyses, led teams and wrote reports (in English and Russian) in respect to international and local litigation support, internal corporate investigations, whistleblower allegations and internal audit support. He has also given oral evidence in the Moscow Commercial Disputes Court.
During his career Sergei served national and international clients across various industries, including consumer goods manufacturing and distribution, construction, pharmaceuticals, automotive, industrial goods, financial institutions, retail, oil and gas, transportation and non-profit organisations. He has built up a deep knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges faced by international companies in the emerging markets. Sergei’s international experience includes five years in the US (as an audit professional in a Big Four firm) and one year in the UK (as a director in a prominent expert witness firm).
Also, Sergei presented and moderated fraud and corruption related topics at conferences and taught clients’ employees and university students accounting, anti-fraud and anti-corruption courses.
Sergei holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Towson University. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a certified fraud examiner (CFE).
Sergei is fluent in Russian and English languages.
