Sara K Thompson is a shareholder in the Atlanta, Georgia, office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international law firm with over 2,000 attorneys practising across 39 offices. She concentrates her practice on the defence of product liability litigation, with an emphasis on representing manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other consumer products in state and federal courts nationwide. Sara has experience in managing individual, nationwide and mass tort litigation matters involving a variety of pharmaceuticals, including anti-arrhythmic medications, contraceptives, oncology medications, anti-nausea, anti-convulsant and anti-depressant medications, as well as medical devices including opthalmic devices, neurostimulators, cardiac devices, pain pumps, surgical tools and orthopaedic implants. Sara also defends class action and mass litigation involving personal care products, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Sara is a vice chair of the firm’s pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare litigation practice where she assists in managing a team of over 100 attorneys and other legal and medical professionals in defending pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, distributors or other providers against product liability claims. Sara also counsels pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturers regarding review and drafting of appropriate warning language for product labelling, recalls and reporting, Consumer Products Safety Commission recalls and compliance, and other pre-litigation matters. A trial-experienced litigator, Sara also defends medical providers and facilities in complex medical malpractice cases in Georgia.
Admitted to practise in Georgia and Massachusetts, Sara gained early litigation experience as an associate attorney with two prominent law firms in Boston, Massachusetts, before joining Greenberg Traurig.
Sara has been recognised as a leading attorney for product liability matters in Georgia. She was listed as a Law360 “Rising Star” for product liability in 2012; included on Fulton County Daily Report’s “Georgia’s 40 Under 40” (2013); and a member of the team named by American Lawyer Media affiliates as Litigation Department of the Year for product liability (2018), Regional Litigation Department of the Year for Georgia (2018) and Products Liability/Mass Torts Department of the Year for Georgia (2013 and 2015–2017).
Sara is a frequent speaker and author on topics of interest to product liability litigators such as federal pre-emption, personal jurisdiction, consumer class actions and other relevant issues. She received her juris doctor from Boston University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.
