Biography

Robert Danon is a Professor of Law at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and the founder of Danon, an independent firm with a predominant emphasis on international tax law, cross-border tax disputes and international arbitration. He is also a founding member of Danon, Douma, Kofler, an independent network of international tax experts.

Professor Danon serves as the Chairman of the Permanent Scientific Committee (PSC) of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the largest global and neutral organization dealing with international tax law.

From an international standpoint, Robert Danon’s practice focuses on tax treaty law (including its interaction with investment law), abuse of rights in international law, transfer pricing, dispute resolution and, more broadly, public international law.

Professor Danon is regularly called to give evidence as a testifying expert or to act as a consultant in the framework of mutual agreement and arbitration proceedings, including those involving non-tax agreements such as bilateral investment treaties (BITs). He has in particular acted as expert witness in several high-profile arbitrations under the UNCITRAL or ICSID arbitration rules.

At the national level, Robert Danon advises MNE groups, individuals and global families in all areas of Swiss tax law.

Professor Danon also supports governments, international organizations and taxpayers on reforms and corporate tax governance issues associated thereto. For instance, in 2015, he was requested by Switzerland's finance minister to analyze its corporate tax reform designed to comply with OECD/G20 international standards. He is frequently invited by the OECD to express his views on international tax policy matters.
