Rafael Rincón Ordóñez possesses “deep knowledge of arbitration” and a “strong analytical mind”, according to sources who consider him “the future authority of arbitration in Colombia”.
Rafael Rincón is a founding member of Zuleta Abogados Asociados, where he focuses his practice in international arbitration, international litigation, international law and dispute settlement involving states and state entities.
Rafael has more than 13 years of experience in international disputes under the ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID and ICDR Rules of Arbitration involving the infrastructure, mining, mergers and acquisitions, energy, and oil and gas industries. Rafael is experienced in acting in arbitrations in several jurisdictions, including the US, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain and the UK.
Rafael sits as arbitrator in international tribunals under the ICC Rules of Arbitration and the Rules of Arbitration of other international arbitration centres. He has also acted as secretary to international investment arbitration tribunals under the UNCITRAL Rules and is a member of the drafting committee of the Colombian Arbitration Statute.
Moreover, Rafael is experienced in international human rights law and international litigation, particularly in matters involving expropriations, sovereign immunities, and in the annulment, recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
Rafael graduated with honours from Pontifical Xavierian University School of Law, and obtained an LLM in international business regulation, litigation and arbitration from the NYU School of Law. He is a professor of international arbitration at the Pontifical Xavierian University School of Law in Bogotá.
