Rafael Francisco Alves represents clients in domestic and international arbitration, mediation and negotiation proceedings on complex disputes regarding construction contracts, M&A transactions, commercial partnerships, real estate, banking, oil & gas, energy, among others.
He is former Deputy Counsel at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, in Paris. Ph.D, Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws from University of São Paulo (USP). He also holds a LL.M. from New York University (NYU), where he was an Arthur T. Vanderbilt Scholar, and recipient of the Arthur T. Vanderbilt Medal (2010). NYU Weinfeld Fellow.
Rafael has been highlighted by Chambers and Partners, LACCA Approved, Who’s Who Legal, Legal 500, Leaders League and Anuário Análise 500. Professor of arbitration at the Graduate Program (FGV LAW) at Fundação Getulio Vargas.

Rafael speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
He is Council Member of CPR and co-chair of the Brazilian Advisory Board of CPR. Rafael is also director of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr) and member of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
He regularly sits as arbitrator in Brazil and is member of the list of arbitrators at: CAM-CCBC, CAMARB, CMAA, CAE, CAMFIEP, CAMITAL, CARB, IMAB, CAMESC and ARBITAC. Founder and Coordinator of the NYU Alumni Club in São Paulo.
