Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Future Leaders - Partners

Gebhard Bücheler is a partner at Seven Summits Arbitration (7SA), a Munich-based disputes specialist firm dedicated to arbitration. 7SA combines the expertise and cross-border track-record clients expect from a leading international law firm with the flexibility and efficiency of a boutique practice.

Qualified to practise law in New York and Germany, Gebhard serves as counsel and as arbitrator. Gebhard has advised a broad range of public and private clients across many industries, including energy and natural resources, healthcare and pharmaceutical, media and advertising, manufacturing, private equity, and financial services. He has acted in high-stakes investment and commercial disputes, including post-M&A arbitrations, price revisions under some of Europe’s largest gas import contracts, and a variety of disputes arising from other long-term contracts such as know-how licensing agreements.

Before co-founding 7SA, Gebhard learned the nuts and bolts of international arbitration at the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (2010-2013) and practised with the German dispute resolution firm Wach + Meckes LLP in Munich (2013-2017).

Holding law degrees from Columbia Law School and LMU Munich, Gebhard is the author of the book Proportionality in Investor-State Arbitration (Oxford University Press, 2015), for which he obtained a PhD supervised by Judge Bruno Simma. Gebhard has also served as tribunal assistant to Judge Simma in several investment disputes.

Gebhard has published and spoken on international arbitration, international investment law, public international law, EU law, constitutional law, and civil procedure. He has guest lectured on international arbitration at the University of St. Gallen and the Humboldt-University Berlin. Gebhard advises in English and German, and he speaks French and Spanish.

WWL says: Gebhard Bücheler is “a leading practitioner in the German market” who stands out for his “particular strength in energy disputes, especially in pricing matters”.
