Ken Baseman specialises in antitrust and regulatory economics and has extensive experience as an expert witness on the economics of exclusionary practices. He began his career at the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice (DOJ), where he worked for eight years.

Ken has represented public and private clients in a number of high-profile matters. He has a broad background in several industries, including newspapers, broadcast and cable television, chemicals, international crude oil, tires, automobile components, aerospace, telecommunications, electric utilities, and various aspects of intellectual property.

Select engagement experience includes testifying on market definition, market power and exclusionary practices in LePage’s v Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing; making a presentation to the Federal Trade Commission on economic analysis relating to Brunswick’s market share discounts for stern drive marine engines; preparing expert reports and deposition testimony on liability and damage issues on behalf of Vision-Ease in its antitrust lawsuit challenging Transitions Optical’s exclusive and loyalty agreements with various downstream entities; preparing an expert report for the DOJ’s antitrust division on its challenge to the restructuring of the JOA in Charleston, West Virginia; and providing deposition and trial testimony on behalf of the DOJ’s antitrust division in its lawsuit challenging the acquisition of the Northwest Arkansas Times by the owners of the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas.

Ken earned an MA and was a PhD candidate in economics at Stanford University. He received a BA, magna cum laude, in economics from Carleton College.
