Biography:

Who's Who Legal Competition: Future Leaders - Partners

Nikiforos Iatrou, recognised as one of Canada's most prominent competition litigators, is an accomplished lawyer with key expertise in complex business litigation and competition law. Described by a former Canadian Commissioner of Competition as "someone with terrific common sense, a very good intuition, and wisdom beyond his years" (Precedent magazine, summer 2014), he has a proven ability to advance creative and practical strategies to solve clients’ complex competition issues.

Formerly counsel to Canada's Commissioner of Competition, Niki is routinely retained by Canadian and multinational companies involved in antitrust investigations or in need of competition compliance advice. Some of his most high-profile clients include eBay, Rakuten Kobo and Honeywell. In his practice, Niki focuses on high-stakes, contentious competition issues, including mergers, criminal cartels, abuses of dominance, false and misleading advertising claims, and competition class actions. He is adept at helping clients to navigate complex regulatory investigations, and advocating before courts and administrative agencies on their behalf.

Throughout his career, Niki has continuously been recognised by prominent global and Canadian legal directories as a leading litigator in corporate commercial litigation and competition law. He speaks frequently at conferences both in Canada and internationally and plays leadership roles in the Canadian and American Bar Associations. Niki also publishes widely. He co-authored the book Witness Preparation: A Practical Guide with Supreme Court of Canada Justice Thomas Cromwell and Bryan Finlay, QC, and is the editor of Litigating Competition Law in Canada – a first-of-its-kind publication for the industry in Canada.

WWL says: Nikiforos Iatrou boasts a “leading competition litigation practice” and garners praise for his “excellent practical experience” from his time working at the Canadian Competition Bureau.
