Who's Who Legal Corporate Tax: Advisory

Aseem Chawla is an India bar council member, a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is a certificate holder of the comparative tax policy and administration programme of Harvard Kennedy School.

Aseem’s experience includes advising large Indian and multinational corporate houses on tax matters, including international tax, inbound and outbound investment structuring, and cross-border tax issues. He represents clients on tax litigation matters before various appellate fora. He is also well regarded for estate planning, inheritance and family governance, trusts and private client matters, both national and international clients, high-net-worth individuals, trustees, family offices and financial institutions.

Aseem has been consistently adjudged as one of leading tax experts in the Asia Pacific region by Chambers and PartnersAsialaw Leading LawyersWho’s Who Legal, Chambers Asia Pacific, and is identified as among 40 leading Indian lawyers under 45. 

Aseem is actively involved in leadership capacities at a variety of professional bodies and business chambers and is regularly invited to address various domestic and international tax forums and industry chambers. 

Aseem is the co-editor of India Law News and Indian Advocates. He has several authorships to his credit including CCH Wolters Kluwer’s publication A Compendium of Advance Rulings on Income Tax. He has contributed in IFA Cahiers, 2013, Annual World Congress held in Copenhagen, as country reporter for India. His contribution has been acknowledged in Kanga & Palkhivala’s Income Tax Commentary, 10th edition, an acclaimed treatise on Indian income tax laws. He is lead contributory author of the tax treatise, A Global Analysis of Tax Treaty Disputes, by the Cambridge tax law series. Aseem was featured in The Week’s special coverage on young lawyers and has also been bestowed award of Young Achiever. He is currently co-author of the International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation’s (IBFD) Global M&A Tax Research Platform. Aseem’s name finds mention in 100 Legal Luminaries of India, published by LexisNexis. 

Recently, Aseem has been nominated by the Ministry of Finance, government of India, as non-executive director on board of one of the leading state-owned general insurance companies. He, in an honorary capacity, has also been appointed as a financial and tax adviser of a leading pan-India not for profit organisation, which is celebrating its centenary foundation year (100th year of establishment).
