Biography:

Who's Who Legal Competition: Future Leaders - Partners

Dr Moritz Lorenz is a partner in the Berlin office of Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein specialising in competition and State aid law. He advises clients on all aspects of EU and German competition law, in particular on merger control, in connection with cartel infringements, on dominance issues, distribution systems, cooperations and licences as well as on follow-on damage claims. He develops compliance systems for companies of various industries and has conducted internal investigations into compliance incidents in Europe, China and Saudi-Arabia. He also has broad experience with EU state aid matters and advises both governmental bodies and undertakings and represents them in national and EU courts.

Recent assignments include the review of the distribution system of an international fashion chain, securing merger clearance for an acquisition by a major international chemicals company, advising a dominant company on its rebate scheme, developing a big data-based compliance screening tool, filing a multimillion damages claim against a cartel member and representing a regional airport in a state aid matter.

Moritz is the author of the textbook An Introduction to EU Competition Law (Cambridge University Press) and many other publications. He teaches German and EU competition law at Martin Luther University in Halle, Germany. Moritz serves as co-editor of the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice.

Moritz holds a doctoral degree in law for a thesis on patent licensing under EU competition law. During his doctorate, he spent six months at Boston University Law School as a visiting scholar. He studied law at Passau University in Germany, in Russia and in China.
