Chisa Uba is a partner in the law firm of Adepetun, Caxton-Martins, Agbor & Segun. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 1999 and has, to her credit over 16 years’ practice and experience in Nigerian admiralty matters.

Chisa is noted for her proficiency in advising vessel operators in the Nigerian offshore industry, particularly on compliance with the local content laws. She has advised several clients on viable corporate/operating structures under the local content laws for vessel operators in the Nigerian offshore industry. In addition to providing legal advice, Chisa is actively involved in compliance matters for clients. She represents clients before government agencies including committees of the Nigerian National Assembly.

Chisa advises and represents clients in offshore industry vessel transactions. She has advised clients in numerous vessel acquisition and ship finance transactions, charterparties and so on.

Chisa also advises clients on the employment of Nigerian seafarers for coastal or sea-going ships.

Chisa is also very active in litigation and represents diverse clients before all tiers of Nigerian courts in admiralty cases. She was one of the lead counsel in the group that successfully prosecuted the first landmark case under the Nigerian Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act.

Chisa also advises clients on matters arising from international carriage of goods by sea. She has represented vessel and cargo interests respectively before Nigerian courts on issues arising from contracts of carriage, charterparties and so on.

Chisa is bright, quickly grasps complex issues and is generally a pleasure to work with whether in transactions, compliance, litigation or alternative dispute resolution.
