Who's Who Legal Data: Data Security

Samuel Klaus is a senior associate in Schellenberg Wittmer's information and communication technology and intellectual property group in Zurich. He advises clients regarding technology projects, outsourcing transactions and in all matters related to software development, licensing, e-commerce and data protection and data privacy issues, in particular related to new technologies eg, blockchain, BIM and IoT).

Some recent examples of Samuel's expertise in TMT include: advising Manor Group in all matters related to ICT and data protection; advising Valora in a dispute with service provider T-Systems related to the partial termination and migration of services in what could become a landmark judgment; and advising Bayer Consumer Care and Bayer Switzerland in all data protection matters.

Samuel is registered with the Swiss and Zurich Bar associations and admitted to practise throughout Switzerland. He co-chairs the ITechLaw e-commerce law committee, and is a member of the Information Security Society Switzerland and the Licensing Executives Society (Switzerland).

Samuel studied at the University of Zurich (lic iur 2002; Dr iur 2009), KU Leuven and UC Berkeley (LLM in law and technology, 2014). After his LLM, he worked as an associate at one of the top technology law firms in Silicon Valley. He has experience as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Zurich; a judicial secretary at the District Court of Zurich; and legal counsel for a large technology consulting company and a large public utility company in the energy sector. Before joining Schellenberg Wittmer in 2016, Samuel Klaus worked as an associate in the IT, IP and competition team of a major law firm in Zurich.
