Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Future Leaders - Partners

David Kim is a partner (senior foreign attorney) in Lee & Ko’s international dispute resolution practice group, and is highly regarded for his expertise and extensive experience in assisting clients with a broad range of international arbitration matters.

David’s experience in international arbitration matters includes acting as legal counsel for many different clients in various arbitration cases before the ICC, SIAC, ICSID, HKIAC, KCAB, and LCIA, and in ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules. He has represented multinational corporations, government entities, defence contractors and high-profile individuals in numerous commercial disputes related to construction, shipping, military contracts, energy and natural resources, telecommunications, and investor-state matters.

Mr Kim has also served as an adjunct professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea and a member of the international arbitration council of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB). He is a former representative of the Asia chapter of the regional coordinating committee of the ICC young arbitrators’ forum and is the former co-coordinator for the young ICCA mentorship programme.

David has been recognised as a leading practitioner by Chambers Asia Pacific, which describes him as someone whose "advocacy is logical, persuasive and tempered" and who "will go the extra mile to take care of his clients". David is also ranked as a “future star” in Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific 2018 and was named as an “outstanding young partner” in Chambers Asia Pacific 2016. Most recently, David was named "next generation leader in arbitration" by the KCAB, the first time such a distinction was awarded by the KCAB.

David is admitted to practise in Alberta, Canada and speaks English and Korean.

WWL says: David Kim is “very thoughtful and easy to work with” according to respondents one of whom notes, “I would not hesitate to bring in David for a counsel role on a major dispute.”
