Who's Who Legal Competition

Jürgen Schindler is a partner in Allen & Overy LLP’s Brussels office and co-head of Allen & Overy LLP’s global antitrust practice. He divides his time between the Brussels and Hamburg offices.

Jürgen has extensive experience advising clients on complex international, EU and German merger control, cartel, and abuse of dominance cases. His practice encompasses a broad range of sectors, including high-tech, energy, shipping and transport, raw materials, chemicals, finance, consumer and industrial products. In addition, Jürgen litigates before the European courts in Luxembourg.

His recent experience includes advising Google in the European Commission’s ongoing high-profile investigation into Google’s mobile operating system Android and regularly acting for General Electric with respect to transactions in the renewables energy sector, such as its acquisition of joint control together with Macquarie over Markbygden ETT AB (METT), which will construct and operate one of the largest onshore wind parks in Sweden.

Jürgen completed an internship with DG Competition and worked as an international fellow at the US Federal Trade Commission. He is a non-governmental adviser to the International Competition Network (which includes more than 130 competition authorities worldwide), where he regularly contributes to the merger and cartel working groups. He is also a frequent speaker at international conferences.

Jürgen is admitted to practise in Frankfurt and New York, and is listed as a European lawyer at the Brussels Bar. He speaks German, English and French.

Jürgen is recommended by Chambers Europe, which states: "Clients describe him as ‘a young, up-and-coming lawyer who we trust greatly’. He provides extremely robust advice."

Allen & Overy's antitrust and competition practice comprises over 120 specialists located across Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. The practice advises corporate clients and financial institutions on their global antitrust policies, litigation and regulatory strategies and has acted on some of the highest-profile and most complex cases in recent years.

WWL says: Jürgen Schindler is “an excellent practical adviser” who is “really impressive, extremely knowledgeable” and “fast to get to the issues” of a case.
