Who's Who Legal Competition: Future Leaders - Non Partners

Malik Idri is a competition lawyer in Orrick's Paris office. He started his career at Clifford Chance Paris before joining Orrick along with Patrick Hubert.

Malik’s practice focuses on French and European competition law, on both transactional and litigation cases: merger control, antitrust litigation before the French Competition Authority and the European Commission, as well as litigation cases before the administrative courts and state aid. He holds a PhD in competition law, from University of Provence Aix-Marseille III in 2009 and a master’s degree from ESSEC business school.

Malik is an abuse of dominant position specialist, with a particular focus on the telecommunication sector and, more generally, on regulated sectors. He dedicated his PhD thesis to the opening up to competition of the French phone network and he worked at the French sector regulator (ARCEP). He also has advised SFR on a number of litigation matters including Orange’s sentence to pay the highest fine ever imposed by the French competition authority for abuse of dominant position.

Malik developed a particular expertise on private enforcement matters. He regularly advises defendants or claimants in cases with billions at stake and has been involved in dozens of cases.

Malik has also been involved in major merger cases, such as the acquisition of Arianespace by Airbus Safran Launchers or the acquisition of Goldcar by Europcar.

Malik is a regular lecturer at the ESSEC business school. He regularly publishes articles, eg, on tacit collusion in oligopolies or competition law enforcement in sport markets.

WWL says: Malik Idri is "a leading competition lawyer" who is highly sought after thanks to his "strong experience in French litigation and follow-on actions".
