Who's Who Legal Competition: Future Leaders - Partners

Sascha Dethof is one of the founding partners of Fieldfisher's office in Düsseldorf. He practises German and EU competition law. His long-standing experience covers European Commission and Federal Cartel Office (FCO) antitrust investigations including leniency applications. He acts on behalf of clients in cartel damages claims. This includes strategic preparatory counsel for potential antitrust damages actions and the defence against such actions. He regularly advises clients on vertical matters, ie, the competition law implications of distribution and supply agreements. He provides competition law guidance for horizontal cooperations such as R&D and licensing agreements and on the specific limitations for market dominant companies.

Sascha has extensive experience in the design and implementation of cost-effective compliance programmes. This includes competition law compliance trainings as well as audits. He is a member of the Antitrust Working Group which was set up by the renowned German Institute for Compliance (DICO).

He regularly advises clients on German and EU merger control, multi-jurisdictional filings and the respective tactical issues, and the setup of international legal teams. He has represented clients before German and European courts and in FCO and European Commission proceedings.

Sascha has been a partner in the Düsseldorf office of Fieldfisher since 2014. Before this, he received legal training in the antitrust group of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Washington, DC; he then joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, based in Düsseldorf and Beijing. He holds a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Göttingen.

Sascha regularly advises Japanese clients, particularly on competition compliance with his Japanese colleagues. He is also responsible for Fieldfisher's China activities, with offices in Beijing and Shanghai. He advises on China-linked cross-border investments, investigations and compliance programmes.

He speaks regularly at seminars and conferences and has published articles on German and European competition law. He is a member of the German Association of Competition Law. Sascha speaks German, English and some Mandarin.
