Who's Who Legal Corporate: Merger & Acquisition

Oliver Brahmst is a senior M&A partner and White & Case's global co-head of private equity. His practice focuses on domestic and cross-border acquisitions and divestitures, including joint ventures and equity co-investments.

Oliver has built up a significant track record in the resolution of complex cross-border transactions, having worked on some of the most innovative and exciting deals of the last ten years.

Often working across multiple jurisdictions, Oliver has spearheaded the firm's M&A practice across the Americas, advising on high-profile transactions and taking a major role in such landmark deals as the representation of CVC Capital Partners in leading a consortium including Temasek Holdings and Vatera Healthcare Partners in their acquisition of a controlling stake in Alvogen; CVC Capital Partners in its US$1.425 billion acquisition of PDC Brands from Yellow Wood Partners; Investcorp in its co-acquisition of CVC Capital Partners' ownership stake in AlixPartners; China Three Gorges Corporation in its US$1.2 billion acquisition of Duke Energy's assets in Brazil; and Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Kingdom Holding Company of Saudi Arabia in the US$2.9 billion stock-and-cash sale of FRHI, the parent company of luxury hotel brands Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel, to AccorHotels.

Oliver regularly leads the legal team in delivering innovative solutions to seemingly intractable challenges, such as his representation of Pilot Travel Centers during their acquisition of Flying J's core travel plaza and truck stop businesses. The deal took place at a critical point in Flying J's bankruptcy and, in the face of immense time constraints, Oliver and his colleagues created a framework for a transaction that simultaneously advanced Pilot Travel Centers' objectives and gained the support of the bankruptcy court and of Flying J's creditors' committee. The deal was described by The M&A Advisor (2011) as a "deal of the decade."

Oliver received his LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1994, his LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1988 and his BA from the University of Toronto in 1985.

As a mark of the esteem in which he is held in the financial and legal community, Oliver is named as a leading individual for M&A and private equity in Euromoney (2018), Chambers USA (2017), Chambers Global (2017), The Legal 500 – US (2017) and Best Lawyers (2016). Oliver was named “M&A Legal Advisor of the Year” by The M&A Advisor (2015).

Oliver is also currently an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law.

WWL says: Oliver Brahmst is “very well regarded in the field” according to sources who commend his “practical, strategic and very commercial approach” to M&A matters.
