Who's Who Legal Switzerland - Corporate Tax

Jean-Frédéric Maraia is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer's taxation group in Geneva. He advises clients on all tax matters both at a domestic and international level and at an individual private client and corporate level. His areas of expertise include M&A and real estate transactions, lump-sum taxation, estate planning, taxation for art-related matters and tax litigation.

Some recent examples of Jean-Frédéric's expertise in corporate tax matters include: advising a French leading real estate company and its Swiss corporation in the acquisition of another important real estate group in Geneva; advising a multinational company and leading Swiss bank in the sale of land and a building owned respectively by two different entities and providing a tax analysis to a multinational construction company regarding any indirect tax responsibility in relation with the purchase of a target company.

Jean-Frédéric is a lecturer at the University of Geneva. He also lectures at the Swiss Accountancy Academy. In 2010, he became the executive director of the LLM tax programme at the School of Law at the University of Geneva. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the Geneva Bar Association and the Swiss Bar Association.

Jean-Frédéric obtained a law degree from the School of Law of the University of Geneva in 1999 and was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 2002. In 2004, he completed a DEA in international tax law, followed by a doctorate ("Transfer pricing of intangibles") in 2007. He received the Prix Bellot in 2009. Before joining Schellenberg Wittmer in 2010, Jean-Frédéric practised tax law for several years in one of the leading firms in Geneva.
