What attracted you to a career in law?

That there is a great freedom in the practice of the profession and that you take part in the development of society.

What do you enjoy most about dispute resolution?

The process of taking the facts of a case and interlinking them with law into a winning concept.

Your practice encompasses arbitration as well as litigation – how does your approach to each type of proceeding differ from the other?

The litigation process and strategies are very much the same, but you must adapt to the different procedural regulations.

What qualities make a successful advocate?

Engagement, knowledge and courage.

What impact has the development of technology had on the litigation process since you began practising?

A lot has changed with technological development. You have much more information and documentation on the sequence of events in a case, since all written communication is documented to a greater extent, especially through emails. The counsel’s submissions are also more voluminous, since you have more material, and it is easy to compile it into written statements.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Never try to deceive the court or the arbitrators.

What trends do you expect to see in litigation in Sweden in the next few years?

The large law firms in Sweden are trying to establish a business model in litigation for generating profit. It will be more common with larger teams and a more aggressive approach to initiating legal actions.
