As a widely recognised antitrust and competition lawyer, Dr Zhan Hao is partner in AnJie’s antitrust and competition department, one of the biggest antitrust teams in China. The scope of the antitrust legal practice covers merger antitrust filing, defence of investigation on monopoly agreements (cartels) and abuse of dominance, antitrust private litigation, antitrust compliance, antitrust analysis from an economic perspective, and anti-unfair competition, serving industries such as automobile, automobile parts, energy, finance, machinery, electronics, textile, aviation, IT, food and consumer goods.

In particular, Dr Zhan excels at antitrust filings, investigation and litigation. In regards to concentration antitrust filings, he has assisted many multinational and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in China and has secured approvals for all transactions he has represented thus far. In regards to antitrust investigation, Dr Zhan has represented both Chinese-funded and foreign-funded companies and has successful experience in dealing with antitrust investigations against monopoly agreements or abuse of dominant position. For instance, he has represented respondents in China's first antitrust investigation against price cartels and consequently obtained a suspension of the investigation. In addition, Dr Zhan has successfully defended clients in antitrust litigations in Chinese courts. He has conducted competition law trainings, compiled compliance brochures, and prepared antitrust analysis for numerous companies, including Fortune 500 companies, listed companies and SOEs.

Dr Zhan is regarded as a leading professional antitrust/competition lawyer by a number of internationally well-known ranking institutions, including Chambers and Partners and PLC. He is a contributor to the domestic legislative process in this area, having been extensively involved in the drafting, advising, discussion and formulation of the AML supporting regulations. He has previously been invited to deliver a series of lectures on the PRC Anti-Monopoly Law (AML) via a professional training website.

Moreover, Dr Zhan has authored many academic books on the PRC's AML that has been published by LexisNexis and leading Chinese legal press. He is the Chinese antitrust lawyer with both a PhD degree in law and extensive experience in post-doctoral microeconomic research.

Currently, Dr Zhan Hao is an arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), BAC, HKIAC and AICAC; and vice president of the professional committee of the All China Lawyers Association. He is also a professor at the law school of the University of Central Finance and Economics and Renmin University.

Dr Zhan Hao has practised law for over 19 years, with a special focus on insurance law and competition law. Under his leadership, AnJie has the biggest insurance team in PRC providing comprehensive services for insurance and reinsurance clients.

His insurance law practice covers insurance disputes; the use of insurance funds and corporate matters, including the development of new insurance products in China; the localisation of insurance products; insurance compliance; set-up of insurance institutions; IPO for insurance companies; M&A for insurers; claim and subrogation litigation and arbitration, extended warranty; healthcare; and so on. Dr Zhan Hao's clients include giant Chinese insurance groups as well as prominent global insurance companies. Dr Zhan is the vice president of the auto insurance consulting committee at the Insurance Association of China (IAC), being the only attorney serving on the committee. Dr Zhan is also an arbitrator of CIETAC, SIETAC, HKIAC, KLRCA, LCIA, DIS and AICAC. He serves as vice president of the professional committee of the All China Lawyers’ Association (ACLA), member of legal counsel committee of All-China Federal of Returned Overseas Chinese, and an expert to the Insurance Asset Management Association of China (IAMAC).

He is also a postdoctoral researcher in economics. He is a professor of the University of Central Finance and Economics and Renmin University.

Dr Zhan received his LLB, LLM and doctoral degree in law. He participated in the programme sponsored by the EU to study EU law in 2001.
