Pieter Conradie enjoys an excellent reputation for his expertise in sophisticated product liability class action cases.
Pieter Conradie is an executive consultant in the firm’s dispute resolution practice. Pieter is a former member of the Johannesburg Attorney's Association Supreme Court sub-committee, a founder member of the Environmental Law Association and a former commissioner of the Small Claims Court. Pieter has been the attorney for various large corporations in South Africa representing them in the United States of America, Britain and Europe.
Pieter was admitted as an attorney in 1976. He then joined the Johannesburg Bar, where he practised as an advocate until March 1980. He subsequently joined Hofmeyr (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr).
His experience includes arbitrations, mediation, investigations into mining incidents, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act-related matters, anti-corruption investigations and defamation.
He has been involved in actions in New York in both federal and state courts on behalf of defendant corporations, where jurisdiction and forum non conveniens points were successfully taken. In view of various matters being dealt with in New York, Pieter has gained extensive knowledge about the New York legal system, which includes knowledge about class actions, punitive damages and jury trials.
Pieter is recommended in the dispute resolution sections of Chambers Global (band 1, 2012–2018) and The Legal 500 EMEA (2012–2017). He is also listed in the arbitration and mediation, litigation, and product liability litigation sections of Best Lawyers International (2008–2018), and in 2017 was listed as Lawyer of the Year for arbitration and mediation. In addition, Pieter is named as a leading lawyer in Who’s Who Legal: Litigation (2013 and 2017), Who’s Who Legal: Product Liability Defence (2014) and Who’s Who Legal (compendium edition, 2014).
