As the founding and majority partner of Paulo Sergio João Advogados, Paulo Sergio João has extensive experience in employment relations, labour markets and labour law in São Paulo, Brazil. He is nationally renowned as an expert in solving individual and collective labour disputes, strategic compensation and compliance issues, enjoying high prestige in academic and professional fields.
He holds a doctorate in labour law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) (1998); a Master of Laws degree from the University of São Paulo (1985); and a Master of Laws degree in social rights from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium (1981). He graduated in law from PUC-SP (1974).
Paulo is an associate doctor professor at PUC-SP, having lectured on graduate and postgraduate courses since 1978, and is also a coordinator of the university’s specialisation course in labour law. He has been a professor at the School of Business Administration of São Paulo (part of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV)) since 1991. He is also a professor of labour and labour procedure law, and coordinator of the corporate labour law programme, at FGV’s Law School of São Paulo; and professor of corporate labour law, and coordinator of the specialisation course in labour law, at Faculdade de Campinas (FACAMP).
Paulo is president of the Cesarino Júnior Institute (a social rights organisation), and member of the Iberoamerican Association of Labour and Social Security Law.
