Noel Matthews is commended by peers for his “highly incisive” approach. He has two decades’ experience as an expert witness on business valuations, quantification of lost profits and wasted costs.
Noel Matthews is a senior managing director in the economic and financial consulting practice of FTI Consulting, and is based in London. He has provided financial and economic consulting advice to clients for over 20 years. His experience includes financial advice in the context of disputes, business valuation, intellectual property, economic regulation and corporate strategy.
Since 2006, Noel's practice has focused on expert financial advice in the context of international arbitration and domestic litigation. Typically, this involves the quantification of lost profits, business valuation, assessments of wasted costs, or advice relating to accounting matters. He has been appointed as expert witness and prepared reports in matters before arbitral tribunals and the UK's High Court, and given testimony as an expert witness on a number of occasions. His arbitration practice encompasses both commercial arbitration and investor-state disputes.
Noel has taken a leading role in over 50 contentious matters, including cases before the UK Courts, as well as ICC, ICSID, DIAC, LCIA and CAS tribunals, and tribunals convened under UNCITRAL rules. Several of the cases Noel has been involved with involve matters in dispute in excess of US$1 billion. Recent matters include the valuation of allegedly expropriated assets, several post-acquisition disputes arising from breaches of accounting warranties, and the assessment of consequential losses from breaches of contract.
Noel is the author of a number of articles relating to the quantification of losses in international arbitration, and regularly presents on damages and valuation related topics to law firms. He is a chartered accountant and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
