Biography

Nigel Parr chairs the global Ashurst competition and antitrust practice. He specialises in all aspects of UK and EU competition law, including mergers; strategic business advice and competition risk management; cartel and abuse of dominance cases; market/sector investigations; appeals; and competition litigation. He has practised EU and UK competition law for almost 30 years, and has advised on more than 40 UK/EU Phase II merger cases and market investigations. He has particular expertise in cartel and abuse of dominance investigations and appeals to the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal, European General Court and European Court of Justice, together with judicial review applications to the UK Administrative Court. He is listed in the top tier of the Chambers and The Legal 500 directories for competition law and competition litigation. Clients repeated in these guides have described him as “a phenomenal competition lawyer” with an "unparalleled grasp of competition issues." His clients have highlighted his “calm demeanour and excellent advocacy”, "inspiring great trust and confidence with his tremendous knowledge of the subject, technical ability and utter composure".

Nigel has LLB, LLM and PhD degrees in law and EU law, and has written numerous articles and conference papers. He is co-author of UK Merger Control: Law and Practice (third edition, published by Sweet & Maxwell, 2016). He is a trustee of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
