Nick Hourigan ranks highly among peers and is revered as an “intellectual powerhouse in the application of advanced data analytics”.
Nick Hourigan is a senior managing director at FTI Consulting and is based in London. Nick leads the data and analytics team in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and for over 20 years has performed large-volume transaction-based analytics for litigation and investigation matters. He is considered an expert in the financial services industry, and has managed complex global-scale projects with data-records sets numbering billions, originating from diverse sources that span traditional structured and unstructured boundaries.
Nick’s focus is the elevation of subject matter expertise through advanced analytics. As such, his team’s constantly evolving skill sets cover all aspects from data identification through to final presentation, and occasionally beyond, to incorporate sustainable solutions. On behalf of his clients, he has developed innovative technical solutions to financial markets and other investigative analyses that have been accepted by numerous regulatory authorities and the courts. He is an expert in leading advanced analytics, using algorithms and machine learning to support FTI Consulting’s investigations and other expert capabilities.
While Nick works across industries on data- and analytics-intensive investigative matters such as those involving fraud and/or financial crime, his specific focus has been financial services, where his team brings matter-proven leading technology to industry problems.
Significant roles Nick has held recently include conducting the crucial analytics supporting the global investigation into integrity in tennis, where his team built an interactive visual analytics package to enable the Independent Review Panel’s investigation. He also provided expert evidence in Cayman related to asset tracing in one of the largest financial fraud cases ever litigated. In this case, his analysis was facilitated by a bespoke rules-based tracing tool, enabling a completeness and level of detail to the review otherwise impracticable by traditional analytic methods. In nearly all matters, Nick’s objective is to optimise the utility of technology and analytics while ensuring the credibility and transparency of his analyses.
