For the 15th year, WWL has researched the global real estate market to identify the leading practitioners in each jurisdiction. The individuals listed are among the most prominent in the field and are well versed in counselling domestic and international clients on the full range of real estate services, including acquisitions and disposals, leasing, planning and development, joint ventures, financing and estate management. In total, 836 lawyers from 51 jurisdictions are highlighted.



Who's Who Legal does not list law firms, only individual lawyers. The leading firms are those in each region whose listed practitioners received the most total nominations in our research. We highlight individuals at other firms who also scored very highly in our research.
The Thought Leaders are those individuals who received the highest number of nominations from peers, corporate counsel and other market sources this year. Our research has identified them as being truly outstanding practitioners and the very best in their field.

McCarthy Tétrault

A top Canadian firm with a strong showing in this year’s research. Six of its practitioners are recognised.
Abraham Costin is “among the very best” in Canada, according to interviewees, who note his “strong reputation” in the field. He is a transactional expert lauded for his work advising institutions and developers, as well as for his ability in insolvency matters relating to real estate.
James Papadimitriou has strong experience in advising on commercial real estate issues, including port leasing cases. He also advises on project financing, as well as representing large financial institutions on leasing matters.
The “highly capable” Danny Grandilli is frequently seen on major matters in the real estate field. He is well known for his skill in complex acquisitions and dispositions, as well as in private equity offerings.
John Currie is recommended for the broad range of expertise he brings across various real estate transactional issues, with extensive experience advising clients on matters such as securitisations, commercial leasing and joint ventures.

Ballard Spahr

A strong name in the real estate market that conducts complex and high-level legal work across the US. We list eight practitioners from the firm this year.

Laurence Preble is a long-standing figure in the western US real estate field, boasting expansive experience working on complex transactions both domestically and internationally. He is described as “an excellent lawyer”, thanks to his breadth and depth of expertise.
Beat Steiner proficiently advises clients on various real estate transactions that include acquisitions, developments and dispositions, with a particular focus on the resort industry.
Karen Dennison boasts a strong practice in Nevada where she advises clients on a range of real estate matters. She frequently assists governmental agencies including the Nevada Real Estate Division.

Christian Schede at Greenberg Traurig has a broad practice that touches a variety of industries and property types. He is acknowledged as an experienced practitioner who can capably advise institutional clients on intricate real estate matters.

At P+P Pöllath + Partners, Stefan Lebek is a well-regarded lawyer with extensive knowledge of the real estate area. His experience covers a range of real estate matters including lease agreements, property developments and joint ventures.

Anne Sofie Bjørkholt of BA-HR is commended by peers and clients for her practice, with one source describing her as “probably the highest-skilled real estate lawyer in the Norwegian market”. She is noted for her “rare combination” of expertise on transactions including VAT, tax and regulatory issues. 

Christopher Borch at Advokatfirmaet Thommessen is a highly rated practitioner who is recognised for his experience in the field. One peer comments, “He's one of the best guys – solution-oriented with a brilliant mind and good commercial sense, and tries to find solutions that benefits all parties if possible.”


CMS von Erlach Poncet’s Sibylle Schnyder has a dedicated real estate practice in which she advises clients on an array of matters including acquisitions, development and leasing. One peer notes that she is “very knowledgeable and experienced in a broad range of real estate matters”.

Corrado Rampini of Bär & Karrer wins praise for his “broad focus in real estate matters”. He brings his extensive M&A experience to bear on complex transactions in the sector and also possesses notable financing expertise.
