Insurance & Reinsurance Experts 2015: Analysis

For the first time this year we also recognise the top insurance and reinsurance expert witnesses, with 15 featured from across the US and England. These experts provide evidence on insurance coverage and claims, risk transfer, valuations and damages, and are highlighted for their “unbeatable expertise”.

Three experts from FTI Consulting are recommended. In London, Ian Marshall has “significant experience” in run-off, insurance technical investigations and complex reinsurance transactions. Jerry McArthur leads the insurance practice in London, specialising in insurance operational and service delivery with a particular focus on claims, delegated authorities, outsourcing and run-off management. He is a “leading light” in the sector and “hugely impressive” according to peers. In New York, Paul Braithwaite focuses his practice on reinsurance pricing and underwriting and is praised for his “encyclopaedic knowledge”.

Berkeley Research Group also has three experts featured. David Saunders in London is a valuations and damages expert who has been appointed as expert accountant on over 70 occasions. He has given oral testimony both in the UK courts and to arbitral tribunals in a number of jurisdictions and is a “thoroughly impressive operator”. Jonathan Humphrey has advised on insurance claims across the construction, energy, TMT, financial services and manufacturing industries and is a “real asset to clients”. Robin Cantor specialises in insurance claims analysis and “offers clean and concise judgements on complex matters”.

England

Jeremy Fall from Quest Group has over 20 years’ experience as a claims specialist and is a “seasoned expert”. At 3 Verulam Buildings Christopher Symons QC acts as an expert witness on insurance matters under English law in foreign jurisdictions. He has a “commercial approach” and is “greatly respected” by peers.

USA

Reassess Inc’s Paul Thomson III is a “bona fide expert” in loss portfolio assessment work and is “head and shoulders above the rest” according to clients. At Arbitration/Mediation Services, Jonathan Rosen is a claims and underwriting expert whose “diligent” approach to cases makes him a “top choice” for many.  Stephen Sellick from Gnarus Advisors analyses claims in the context of insurance allocation using his “invaluable sector experience”. With over 30 years’ experience, Andrew Maneval of Chesham Consulting has an “impressive depth of knowledge” and approaches matters with a “forensic approach”. Joe Loggia at Buxbaum Loggia & Associates offers expert testimony on settlements and is someone clients “wouldn’t hesitate to recommend”. Compass Reinsurance Consulting in New Hampshire is represented by John Chaplin who offers “sound analysis” of technical issues as well as custom and practice and the broad precepts upon which the reinsurance industry is based. Christopher Makuc from Navigant in Washington DC specialises in liability estimation and insurance coverage, and offers a “high-quality service” to clients.
