Neil Ashton is a partner in StoneTurn’s London office and has over 20 years of experience working in practice, in industry and in expert witness and litigation support work.
Neil acts in complex financial disputes and has given oral testimony before arbitral panels and in Court on a variety of matters, including large-scale proceedings worth several hundred million dollars. He has appeared at hearings both in the UK and abroad and has given evidence via witness conferencing (hot-tubbing) as well as by means of more conventional cross-examination. His arbitration work has involved cases conducted under ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, LMAA and SAL rules.
Neil’s focus is quantification of damages, often in the context of contractual claims. He is commonly involved in post-acquisition disputes and contentious business valuations. He also has significant experience in matters involving major business interruptions.
Neil has worked for clients in a wide range of industry sectors, including energy, commodities, retail, leisure/hospitality, telecommunications, defence, construction and financial services. Most of Neil’s cases have an international aspect and he has particularly significant recent experience in Africa-related work.
Neil commenced his career in the audit department of a Big Four accounting firm. He subsequently gained hands-on experience running and heading up the finance department of a start-up company before commencing his forensic accounting career at another global firm. Neil is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a member of the Academy of Experts. He holds a BA in modern languages (French and German) from the University of Oxford.
