“Superb counsel” Moritz Keller is “a very thorough opponent”, compliment peers who note he is “smart, extremely well prepared and highly skilled”.

Biography

Moritz Keller is an arbitration partner in the Frankfurt office of Clifford Chance. He represents clients in commercial arbitration proceedings and investment arbitration proceedings.

Moritz acts for individuals, companies and corporates; the public sector; and states in arbitration proceedings under the ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, DIS, Austrian Chamber and many other arbitration rules. Moritz regularly handles matters both under public international law and a variety of domestic laws.

In addition to his German background, Moritz is intimately aware of the intricacies of the CEE, CIS and Austrian markets, as – before joining Clifford Chance – he was head of a leading international arbitration practice in Vienna, Austria. Many of his proceedings hence have a focus on Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the CEE or CIS region.

While regularly representing clients in post-M&A disputes, clients also often reach out to Moritz because of his in-depth knowledge of the energy (gas, renewables, electricity), infrastructure, construction or banking sectors. He has also been instructed repeatedly in the pharmaceutical and consumer goods industries. Many of Moritz' cases are of a high-profile, sector-defining nature.

Moritz is a member of a number of arbitration institutions and sits on the ICC commission on arbitration and ADR as well as the ICC commission on energy and the environment. He is also an accredited mediator on the Energy Community Panel of Mediators. Moritz is part of the faculty of the University of Passau (Germany), where he regularly lectures on matters of investment arbitration and EU law. He frequently publishes and lectures on a variety of subjects within his expertise.

Moritz accepts arbitrator mandates in select cases.
