Michael Abt is a key figure in the investment management space. He provides expert advice to investors, with a particular focus on collective investment scheme taxation and regulatory matters.
Michel Abt is a partner with FBT Attorneys-at-law, the co-head of its tax group and a member of its banking and finance group. He has a long-standing experience in both areas, advising a number of Swiss and foreign banking institutions, companies active in asset management, securities dealing or intermediation, funds and fund managers, as well as private clients, on all kind of legal issues, including cross-border issues. He is a recognised expert in Swiss regulatory issues and taxation relating to individuals and companies, especially the taxation of domestic and cross-border collective investment schemes and their investors. His expertise in the investment fund’s industry led a fund’s management company to nominate him as vice chairman of its board. Michel Abt has also a recognised experience in advising high net worth individuals on their wealth and estate planning, assisting them with multi-jurisdiction projects and counselling on specific acquisitions. Michel Abt is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and has been lecturing for many years on Swiss self-regulation issues in the fund area at the Swiss Fund Academy.
From the time it was created in 1993, FBT Attorneys-at-law has been a privileged partner of a large number of significant Swiss and international institutions in Geneva and abroad, acting both as legal adviser and advocate. From its inception, FBT Attorneys-at-law chose the path of specialisation and therefore opted for dividing into four highly specialised groups – banking and finance, corporate, tax and litigation – thus privileging expertise in these particular areas, in which FBT Attorneys-at-law is a leading law firm at the forefront of legal issues.
