The "outstanding" Michael Jelen is a specialist in data analytics and advanced technology.

Biography

Michael Jelen is a director in BRG’s Global Investigations and Strategic Intelligence Practice based in London and New York. He has more than 10 years of experience using various tools and programming languages to manage and analyse large quantities of complex data for clients across many different industries. He has also testified as an expert witness to matters of data integrity.

Representative examples of Mr Jelen’s experience include leading the technology portion of a US-regulator-mandated monitorship of a large European bank in which he managed a global team responsible for collecting SWIFT and other transactional data from locations in Europe, Asia and the Americas. He developed logic for linking together disparate transactional data and built a bespoke review tool to facilitate a large-scale transaction review.

He also tendered two expert reports and provided expert testimony to the Southern District of New York US district court regarding the data integrity of a Chinese e-commerce firm. He visited the company’s main operations, examined their transactional data and independently verified that the company had accurately represented sales data relating to several products contested to be in patent violation. This required intimate knowledge and assessment of the company’s many systems, operations, and business practices over several years.

In a US Department of Justice monitorship of a large online gaming company, Michael co-led the technology team responsible for overseeing the elimination of illegal US dollar and US jurisdiction gameplay. This required developing complex algorithms on volumes of Big Data including play history, hardware utilised and IP geolocation to determine which players were faking non-US locations while physically located in the US.
