Biography

Maurice Courvoisier, partner, has advised and represented clients in international arbitration and litigation for some 17 years in a variety of fields including construction and civil engineering, sales, distribution and licensing, life sciences, joint ventures and M&A, employment, banking, transport, and telecom, also regarding international judicial assistance, injunctions and freezing orders, recognition of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in Switzerland, acting among others, for and against states and state entities. In addition, Maurice deals with theatre, art and sports-related disputes. He speaks and publishes on these topics regularly and also acts as an arbitrator.

Maurice was educated at the University of Basel (lic iur, 1995; Dr iur, 2001; both summa cum laude) and at the Columbia University in New York (LLM, 1998). He was a research and teaching fellow for Professor Ingeborg Schwenzer and Swiss Federal Supreme Court Judge Professor Thomas Geiser at the University of Basel. Prior to joining Walder Wyss, he had several roles including working for a leading Swiss law firm and became a partner in 2012.

Maurice speaks German, English, French and Italian. He is registered with the Basel Bar, the vice chair of the Basel Bar Association and admitted to practise in all Switzerland and New York.
