Matthew is a founding partner of Versant Partners, where he serves as an expert witness in high-stakes arbitration and litigation. He has advised clients on financial, valuation, and damages issues in over 50 international disputes, including expert appointments in ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, and LCIA arbitrations. With over a decade of experience as a senior member of the international arbitration practice at a publicly traded consulting firm, Matthew can provide clients and their counsel with valuable insight into key quantum issues at all stages of the dispute process. He is sought out for his ability to clearly and accurately distil complex financial issues for tribunals and other triers of fact.
Matthew has worked on projects around the world in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, manufacturing, construction, real estate, consumer goods, media and telecoms, and financial services. He has deep experience in developing and frontier economies, with a focus on Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. He specialises in analysing financial and economic issues where there is limited data, high levels of uncertainty, and complex factual and legal circumstances.
Earlier in his career, Matthew lived and worked in the Middle East where he consulted on billion-dollar construction and logistics contracts for a Fortune 500 company. Matthew holds an MBA in finance (honours) and a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Pennsylvania State University. He frequently lectures on international finance and valuation issues at universities and industry events. Matthew currently splits his time between London and Washington, DC.
