Biography

Mr Mark Barmes advises individuals and trustees in all aspects of wealth planning, in both international and domestic contexts, particularly in helping foreign private clients and trustees to establish themselves in Switzerland and to resolve disagreements.

Mark Barmes is on the board of Swiss trustee companies and contributes actively in the field of wealth planning in Switzerland through membership and lecturing for STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and as a committee member of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies (SATC). In addition to his private client work, Mark Barmes also acts for international organisations in employment disputes before the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization.

Mark Barmes graduated from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in economics (1984) and law (1985). He has been admitted as a solicitor in Queensland (1987), to the section of foreign lawyers at the Geneva Bar (1990) and as a solicitor in England and Wales (1992). He joined Lenz & Staehelin in 1988 and has been a partner since 1998. He speaks English and French.

Mark Barmes is a member of the following professional associations: Queensland Law Society, Law Society of England & Wales and the Section of Foreign Lawyers of the Geneva Bar Association.
