Maja Eaton is highlighted as “one of the best” by peers for her expertise in major product liability defence proceedings in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
Maja Eaton is a partner at Sidley Austin, and a leader of the product liability and mass torts practice. She also serves on the firm’s executive committee, and is co-chair of its marketing and practice development committee.
Maja has served in many lead roles for clients in complex tort litigation, including national coordinating counsel and trial counsel roles for a major client in asbestos litigation, where she secured a defence verdict in a mesothelioma case tried in Madison County, Illinois. She similarly served as trial counsel, as well as lead counsel for scientific and regulatory law defences, in MDL and state court litigation involving gadolinium-based MRI contrast agents. She also served as lead defence counsel for a medical device manufacturer in nationwide cardiac lead product liability litigation. Currently, she serves as lead counsel in toxic tort litigation involving a client’s contract sterilisation facilities, and is also leading the defence of cases (including a class action) relating to an oil refinery explosion and fire. Maja has successfully defended trial court victories in state and federal appellate courts. She has delivered presentations at national and international law conferences relating to the defence of drug and medical device claims. Maja has also taught product liability law as an adjunct professor of law at Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Maja also serves on the firm’s recruiting committee, pro bono committee and professional risk management committee. Maja is currently vice president of the board of directors of the Iowa Law School Foundation, and a member of the boards of directors of both the Legal Assistance Foundation and the Chicago Bar Foundation.
