Luiz Carlos Amorim Robortella enjoys praise as “a point of reference for employment law in São Paulo” and is “revered for his long-standing and successful practice”.
Luiz is a founding partner of Robortella e Peres Sociedade de Advogados (1975), a law firm specialising in employment relations, labour markets and labour law in São Paulo, Brazil.
He has been a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) since 1971
He has a bachelor's degree in legal and social sciences from the Catholic Law School of Santos (São Paulo State) in 1970), and a PhD in labour law from the University of São Paulo Law School (USP, 1993).
He is an examiner for over 80 monographs for the master's and PhD degrees at USP Law School, Catholic University Law School (PUC) in São Paulo and other institutions..
He was a professor of labour law and procedural labour law at the Mackenzie University Law School (S Paulo state) from 1974 to 1995; a volunteer assistant professor at University of S Paulo Law School from 1978 to 1992; and a full professor of labour law at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation Law School from 2000 to 2008, as well as a visiting professor at various postgraduate law schools.
Luiz has been member since 1994 (chair no. 91) and director of international relations at the Brazilian Academy of Labour Law.
He has participated in conferences and lectures at over 290 national and international events.
He was also the official brazilian representative before the Executive Committee of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law at the following meetings: World Labour Law Congress in Sydney, Australia (2009); World Congress of Labour and Social Security Law in Santiago, Chile (2012); World Congress of Labour and Social Security Law in Torino, Italy (2018); European Regional Conferences in Seville, Spain (2011), and Prague, Czech Republic (2017).
He is chair no. 29 of the Ibero-American Association of Labour Law and Social Security, and a member of the Latin American Institute of Labour Law and Social Security; Ibero-American Association of Labour and Social Security Law; Council on Legal and Legislative Matters: Higher Council of Labour Relations, at the Federation of Industries of São Paulo (FIESP).
Luiz is a former member of the labour law commission (1998-2002), and the national labour law and labour relations commission (2003), at the the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment.
He is currently a member of the group of experts nominated in 2019 by the Ministry of Economy to propose sugestions for reform of brazilian labor legislation.
Luiz is the author of several books and articles, including Combate à Discriminação no Trabalho na União, Europeia (São Paulo, LTr, 2017), Direito do Trabalho na Empresa e na Sociedade Contemporânea (São Paulo, LTr, 2010; co-author Antonio Galvão Peres), Assédio Sexual no Trabalho (São Paulo, Makron Books, 1998; co-author José Pastore) and O Moderno Direito do Trabalho (S Paulo, LTr, 1994).
He has also contributed, as co-author, to 55 labour law studies and and has written more than 260 articles published in Brazil and abroad.
