Luis A Chalhoub M joined Icaza, González-Ruiz & Alemán as an associate in 2000 and became partner in 2013.
His professional practice concentrates on banking and finance; capital markets; consumer protection and competition; contracts; insurance and reinsurance; trusts and administrative law.
Previously, Luis served as legal executive director at the Commission of Free Trade and Consumer Affairs (1997–1999); legal counsel of the Colón Free Trade Zone (1991–1997); and partner at Arellano, Chalhoub & Asociados (1987–2000).
He is a member of the Panama Bar Association; and the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP), where has also served as president of its Panama branch (2012–2015), member of the board of directors, and head of the academic commission (2010–2012). He is also a member of the Panamanian Association of Executives (APEDE), where he has also served as director and secretary of national matters (2003–2005), chairman of the CADE commission (2009), and deputy general secretary (2011–2012).
Luis has a law degree (honours) from Santa Maria La Antigua University (1985); a Master of Law degree in comparative and international law from Southern Methodist University in Dallas (1986); and diplomas of advanced studies in negotiations, treaties and international trade from the University of Santiago in Chile and the Latin American University of Foreign Trade in Panama (2004).
Mr Chalhoub is the author of Cases on Trusts Analysed by the Panamanian Courts (2005) and the Panamanian chapter of International Commercial Fraud (Sweet & Maxwell, 2002). He is co-author of West's Spanish-English/English-Spanish Law Dictionary (1986) and Conferences on Panama Trusts and Private Interests.
