What do you enjoy most about working in the private client market?
The combination of intellectually challenging work mixed with dealing with real families each with their own particular sensitivities and priorities, with the result that no two days in the office are the same!
What do clients look for in an effective private client lawyer?
Someone who will take the time to understand the family dynamic, their goals and concerns and who can breakdown technically complex concepts in a way any client can understand.
How has covid-19 affected clients? What do you predict to be the long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic on your private client practice?
The coronavirus pandemic has afforded clients the opportunity to examine their existing structures and wealth planning strategies to decide whether they are still fit for purpose. I predict we will continue to see a significant increase in restructuring, new structures and, ultimately, litigation once the dust has settled.
How does Walkers distinguish itself from the competition?
Unlike any other offshore law firm, Walkers' private capital and trusts team genuinely provide the full range of services for its clients. We do not simply deal in vanilla trusts work, we utilise the structures at our disposal in order to find innovative, pragmatic and effective solutions for both private clients and commercial enterprises and we are there at the client's side should they need the assistance of the courts.
How do you effectively coordinate cross-border work?
A huge part of my practice is cross-border in nature and the pandemic has shown all of us that we do not need to be physically within the same jurisdiction in order to work together effectively. With Walkers' global network of offices in all of the key offshore jurisdictions and a base in London, my job of providing seamless advice to clients in real-time is made very easy!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Love what you do because life is too short!
