Biography

Louis Burrus (dual-qualified in both Switzerland and in England and Wales) (solicitor of the Senior Courts) is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer's dispute resolution group, based in Geneva. He specialises in domestic and international commercial litigation, in particular in banking and financial disputes. He has extensive experience in conducting cross-border corporate internal investigations, including white-collar matters, and regularly represents companies and individuals before Swiss and foreign authorities.

Louis's recent expertise in investigations includes: representation of one of the largest Swiss banks in its participation in the US DOJ programme for Swiss banks. Louis also conducted and lead investigations in various other fields such as sports and global commodity trading in regards to cases involving bribery and corruption, sanctions violations or money laundering.

In 2017, Global Investigations Review (GIR) recognised Louis as one of the world’s top investigations lawyers under the age of 40.

Louis has a strong expertise and understanding of the use of technology in litigation matters (in particular e-discovery, analytics tool, predictive coding, etc). As a board advisory member of the Swiss LegalTech Association, Louis is additionally recognised as an industry specialist in supporting the legal industry with a better understanding of the legal technology market. He is regularly invited to speak as the consultative voice on matters related to technology and the legal profession.

Louis's recent expertise in litigation includes: acting as lead counsel to an international private banking group on all litigation aspects related to an acquisition of another large bank, representation of a large transport company before the Swiss courts in the context of several court litigations initiated by a former shareholder and assistance to a large international bank in the context of a large on-going litigation before the courts of the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

Louis has a strong and unique expertise and understanding of the use of technology in litigation matters (in particular e-discovery, analytics tools, predictive coding, etc) which is a huge added value to many of his banking litigation cases.

Louis has been a partner at Schellenberg Wittmer since 2016 and is one of the youngest lawyers in the firm's history to be elected to the partnership. In 2014-2015, he worked in the global white-collar crime and corporate investigations practice of elite firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP in London.
