Leong Wai Hong is a prominent name in the Malaysian market where he is respected for his adept handling of complex corporate and commercial disputes.
Wai Hong is the Head of the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration division of Skrine. A graduate of the National University of Singapore, he has practised law for more than 29 years in Singapore and Malaysia.
He has appeared in many landmark decisions on corporate and commercial litigation, as well as cross-border, defamation, probate, banking, construction, shareholders, trusts and land acquisition disputes. He has given expert testimony on Malaysian law in the Singapore High Courts.
Wai Hong is described as a "sharp and confident" litigator by The Legal 500: Asia Pacific. He is also recommended by clients to Chambers Asia-Pacific as "very practical and strategic, with tremendous patience” and “very smart and quick to grasp issues, very knowledgeable", with sources adding that he provides "solid and practical advice”. He was recently recognised in Asia Business Law Journal’s 2019 “A List” of Malaysia top 100 lawyers, and in Asialaw Leading Lawyers (2020) as a “distinguished practitioner”.
He also sat as a sole arbitrator and as president of three-man panels in arbitrations in Malaysia and overseas. He is a fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators. He is also on the panel of arbitrators of ICC Malaysia, the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).
