Karen is joint leader of Addisons’ intellectual property and trademark practice. She has 20 years’ experience and acts for some of the world’s best-known brand names, as well as many Australian businesses, from start-ups to owners of iconic established brands.
Relationships and a depth of understanding of the client and their particular needs are key for Karen, in providing advice which is commercial, practical and delivers what clients need to achieve. Karen is invested in the success of her clients and in advising them and solving their legal problems she feels very much a part of each of her clients' businesses. Many clients have been instructing Karen for 10-15 years or more.
Karen’s IP and trademark work begins at the inception of the IP or brand and continues across all facets moving forward. She provides seamless trademark advice about the choice and protection of brands, registration throughout the world and broader brand strategies (including commercialisation and licencing). With a background in litigation, Karen also acts for her clients in contentious matters, including negotiated outcomes, trademarks office issues (including oppositions, removals and Examination issues) and Court proceedings.
Karen provides advice and guidance on every aspect of IP issues (including patent infringement, domain names, designs, copyright and confidential information) which may affect a business, including piracy, customs, business and company name issues and commercial matters (due diligence, non-disclosure and related matters).
